Our Event
We spent a lot of time thinking about the kind of wedding that we wanted to have. The traditional reception often ends up incredibly stressful: “you have brought together 150 people, all of whom are important to you. You have four hours to see them all. GO!” That didn't sit well with us. So many of you are traveling long distances to be with us. We wanted to make sure that we had a chance to really talk with everyone. You all mean so much to us, we didn't want to rush. So we decided to make a whole weekend out of it.
The wedding and reception will be happening at the lovely Holly Farm in Carmel Valley, CA. (You can check out the Holly Farm website, but it really does not do the place justice, we swear.) We show up on Friday and leave on Monday. Somewhere in between we'll be getting hitched.
August 7, Friday
Friday there will be a small rehearsal dinner with the wedding party and our immediate families at Holly Farm.
However, we recognize that most people will be arriving in the Carmel area Friday night (especially since most hotels have a two night requirement on the weekends). So we are planning a beach hangout, watch the sunset, eat s'mores, post-dinner gathering at the Carmel City Beach in Carmel-by-the-Sea. There will be a bonfire. And s'mores. It should be very relaxed and fun. Did we mention there will be s'mores? Children are certainly welcome. Dogs are allowed on the beach.
You can find directions to the beach here. Turn off 1 onto Ocean Ave and go through downtown Carmel. Right before the beach you'll turn left onto Scenic Road. You want to follow Scenic Road down and around until you get to Santa Lucia Ave. We'll be set up around here on the beach (you can see the beach below you to the right). There is limited parking along the road. We'll be there starting around 7:00 PM probably until 10ish unless we get kicked out at dark.
August 8, Saturday
Saturday is the day of the wedding. The ceremony will start around 2:30. Don't worry, we'll keep it short. We'll start the reception with a cocktail hour right afterwards. We'll have official babysitting at the reception so the little ones won't be bored and the parents can have fun. The official party will run until about 11pm (babysitting goes until 9). But the thing we love about Holly Farm is that the place is ours. We can stay there and stay up as late as we'd like.
August 9, Sunday
Sunday most people will be packing up and heading home. But we won't be going anywhere yet. We'll be hosting a Hang-over Brunch at Holly Farm starting around 10ish until 1 PM. Come hang out with us, play some bocce, and get some vittles before you get on the road.
