Lodging
The wedding will be occurring at Holly Farm, in Carmel Valley, California. There are a number of hotels, motels, inns, and bed and breakfasts in Carmel Valley, Carmel-by-the-Sea, Pacific Grove, and Monterey. We've pulled together a collection of places to suit a variety of budgets and tastes. Because it is the high season, many hotels require a two-night stay on the weekend.
It's about a 2.5 hour drive from San Francisco to Holly Farm. Those from the Bay Area could do it as a day trip, but be warned that traffic can be bad. We would love to have you join us for as much of the weekend as you can.
We have two places that we especially love and recommend. Though there are lots of great places to stay in the area.
Green Lantern Inn Bed & Breakfast
A collection of adorable little cottages, just blocks from Carmel Beach. Includes a continental breakfast. This is our favorite place to stay in Carmel. Books only 6 months ahead, so call at beginning of March '09. Rooms range from $119-$239. 888-414-4392
Asilomar Conference Ground
Originally a YWCA, Asilomar is now a collection of beautiful arts and craft style buildings. This was our alternative location for the wedding. Breakfast is included with your stay. You are walking distance to the beach in Pacific Grove. They have another event booked that weekend, but check about 6-8 weeks ahead and they might have "leisure rate" rooms. 866-654-2878

Camping
There are a couple of state parks that offer camping in the area. Unfortunately they are a bit of a drive away (looks like 20-30 minutes). But they should be gorgeous.
Fremont Peak State Park
This park features expansive views of Monterey Bay, from its hiking trails in the grasslands of the higher peaks of the Gavilan Range. Other views include the San Benito Valley, Salinas Valley, and the Santa Lucia Mountains east of Big Sur. Pine and oak woodlands in the park are home to many birds and mammals. There are camping and picnic facilities in the park. The park also features an astronomical observatory with a 30-inch telescope, which is open for public programs on selected evenings.
Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park
This beautiful park features redwoods, conifers, oaks, sycamores, cottonwoods, maples, alders and willows - plus open meadows. Wildlife includes black-tail deer, gray squirrels, raccoons, skunks, and birds, such as water ouzels and belted kingfishers. Hikers can enjoy the many scenic trails, including a self-guided nature trail. Some campsites are along the Big Sur River.
